Myrtle Beach Factoids

1. The Myrtle Beach area, or The Grand Strand, encompasses
60 miles of beach property...beginning at the SC state line
in Little River, and ending in Pawley's Island, south of
     Surfside and Murrells Inlet.

2. We have approximately 13 million visitors every year!!

3. Our average temperature is very pleasantly in the 70's most
of the year. In the short 3 months of summer it averages in
the 90's, and very humid. January and February are usually
     about 40 and 50 degrees.

4. We have over 2500 restaurants and more than 100 golf courses.

5. There are 5 nice piers; one in Cherry Grove (North Myrtle),
The Apache Pier, (between North Myrtle and Myrtle)
     2nd Ave Pier,(downtown Myrtle)
Springmaid Pier, (South Myrtle) and Surfside Beach Pier.

6. Fireworks are illegal. You can buy them, but you can't use them!

7. Myrtle Beach is a city based around Hwy 17. In the middle,
it starts with lst Ave North and South. The streets go up
numerically both ways, 2nd Ave North going north, and
2nd Ave South, going south. Those designations end at about
28th Ave South, and at 82nd Ave North.

8. North Myrtle Beach is NOT the north end of Myrtle Beach!
It's a city that includes the beaches of Cherry Grove,
Ocean Drive, Crescent, and Windy Hill. The roads run exactly
the same as in Myrtle Beach.
2nd Ave North in North Myrtle Beach is about 25 miles from
2nd Ave North in Myrtle Beach. This is probably the MOST
confusing part of coming to our area. The cities are vastly
different, and you need to know which one of them your motel
     is in before you come!

9. In both cases, Ocean Boulevard runs parallel with 17 and
concurrent with the street numbers. 1100 North Ocean Blvd is
at the end of 11th Ave North, and will be at the end of that
road, with 1100 Hwy 17 North being at the beginning.

Looking For a Family
"CHERI" is a 2 year old Domestic Short Hair grey tabby. She is already spayed. Cheri came to the shelter as a stray when she was about 4 months old. Her mother was feral & Cheri was NOT very friendly. It took a very long time to get her to where she is today.

Cheri makes it a point to greet each and every person that walks through the door at the shelter! She usually plants herself on the desk in our lobby so that she is in close range of the chairs (and laps that sit in the chairs). Cheri gets along with other cats & could care less about dogs (she doesn't even seem to notice them when they're around)!
Call the NMB Humane Society at (843) 249-4948 or visit
Their Website.

I need a Loving Home!
"Dusty" is a 1 year old german shepard/hound mix. He was turned in with 3 other dogs because the owner was moving. Dusty has a very sweet nature. He is so loving and gentle. Dusty seems to get along well with other dogs & would probably prefer a home with another dog. I think dusty would be good with children also.

If you've had enough of the beach, and don't play golf, what can you do? ALOT! By no means is this a complete list, but below are some of the most popular theatres, shows, and night spots we have in the area.

You'll find most of these have websites for more information, and they will be on our LINKS page. This will be a little description of each, and a phone number if you want to call and make reservations.

THEATRES AND SHOWS

The Carolina Opry:
Country music at it's best, and voted the BEST show every year. Located at 8901-A Hwy 17 North in Myrtle Beach. If you like country music, this is the first show you need to take in.
1-800-843-6779 or 843-913-4000.

The Dixie Stampede:
Dolly Parton's own dinner theatre. This features the most beautiful trick horse riders, and a huge 4 course dinner. The kids will LOVE it! Again, it features country music by some excellent singers, but centers more around comedy and the horses. The theme is a parody of the Civil War, with the audience divided into the North and South.
843-497-9700.

Legends in Concert:
The world's greatest live tribute show...featuring excellent artists' renditions of Elvis Presley, Neil Diamond, Tina Turner, Cher, and more.
843-238-7827

Alabama Theatre:
Based on the country music greats, ALABAMA, this theatre features many varied celebrity appearances, much like a Vegas Show. All the big country stars can be found here, as well as Jim Nabors, Bob Newhart, and many others. It's located in Barefoot Landing in North Myrtle Beach, and always has a huge markee announcing the featured stars.
1-800-342-2262

The House of Blues:
Also located in Barefoot Landing, this is the rock and roll version of our shows. It features an excellent restaurant, and has housed such stars as Pat Benetar, The Little River Band, Alice Cooper, and even The Monkees.
843-272-3000

Entertaining the kids instead of yourselves? Here's some other great places to check out!

OTHER ATTRACTIONS

The Myrtle Beach Pavillion:
Located in the heart of Myrtle Beach near the 501 exit, the pavillion is where your kids want to be. It features more than 35 rides on 11 acres, and is the place where the action is at night. Prepare to WALK!

Family Kingdom:
Found on Ocean Boulevard at 3rd Ave South in Mrytle, this is the original park, and still features South Carolina's largest roller coaster and ferris wheel. Beautiful at night...see the image in the PHOTOS page!

Brookgreen Gardens:
This is a daytime attraction, but truly something you shouldn't miss. The gardens sit in the middle of a 9100 acre wildlife refuge, and features the largest collection of outdoor American sculpture in the world. You'll find breathtaking beauty, lots of walking, and they even have nature tours and boat tours. A MUST SEE!

There are many other things to do, and more than we could ever go into here on this page...boat cruises, go-cart parks, water parks, and even CASINO boats for the gambler! We hope this small list will help you find something to look for when you're here. Again, most of these places have websites, and will be listed again on the LINKS page!
